01 · Which route fits your business?

B2B wholesale and B2C retail are different journeys.

Start with the kind of buyer you want to reach. Your catalogue, pricing, logistics and sales process should follow that decision—not the other way around.

B2B · Businesses buying in volume

Sell to importers, wholesalers and sourcing teams.

Best suited to manufacturers, trading companies and exporters with bulk pricing, product specifications, samples and repeat-order capability.

  • Alibaba.com supplier storefront and RFQ readiness
  • MOQ, sample price, production lead-time and trade terms
  • Buyer enquiry handling and quotation coordination
  • Compliance, buyer verification and export planning
Explore B2B route ↓
B2C · Consumers buying individually

Sell directly to overseas shoppers.

Best suited to retail-ready products with competitive landed costs, approved categories, good product images and realistic delivery/returns operations.

  • Amazon.com, Walmart Marketplace, Etsy and eBay
  • Target Plus for qualifying U.S.-operating businesses
  • Consumer listings, fulfilment and return workflows
  • Marketplace advertising and performance management

Important: Walmart Marketplace is not the same as becoming a wholesale supplier to Walmart. Target Plus is not the same as a Target retail vendor contract. We assess the specific route before suggesting services.
02 · Compare marketplaces

Six destinations. Different eligibility and operating models.

Compare typical opportunities and practical requirements. Platform rules and approval decisions may change; the comparison is a starting point, not an eligibility guarantee.

03 · B2B selling

Alibaba.com supplier readiness: from product catalogue to qualified buyer conversations.

For a manufacturer or exporter, the goal is not to publish a handful of product photos. It is to be ready to answer detailed wholesale enquiries with realistic price, MOQ, lead time, samples and commercial terms.

Prepare business records, authorised representative information and appropriate supplier profile content.

SERVICE PATHWAY

Wholesale product catalogue

Product specifications, variants, export packaging, MOQ and indicative price structure for buyer assessment.

Alibaba Gold Supplier / Verified Supplier features and RFQ allowances vary by programme. Membership, verification and paid promotion do not guarantee genuine leads, purchase orders or overseas buyers.
04 · B2C selling

Match the retail channel to your product and fulfilment capability.

Choose platforms on product suitability and realistic international delivery economics, not logo recognition alone.

Selling on more than one

Consider channel-by-channel inventory, landed price, fulfilment, payment timelines, returns and management capacity before expanding.

05 · Documents & readiness

What should an Indian business prepare?

There is no single document list that applies to every marketplace, destination or product. Start with these practical groups, then complete the marketplace-specific checklist.

1. Business identity

PAN, GSTIN where applicable, registration/incorporation proofs, registered address, identity of authorised signatory, contact details and matching legal names.

2. Export preparation

IEC for exports of goods unless exempt, AD code/bank procedures where relevant, LUT where applicable, shipping invoices, product classifications and any category-specific certifications.

3. Product & brand

SKU list, product attributes, photos, packaging/labels, barcodes where required, trademark or brand authorisation and destination-market compliance.

4. Payments & fulfilment

Compatible payout provider, bank statements or account proof, international transactions-enabled card where required, carrier/warehouse plan, returns and customs responsibilities.

5. B2B wholesale readiness

Wholesale rate sheets, MOQ, capacity, sample policy, HS codes, production lead times, incoterms and buyer quotation process.

6. Country and platform specific

U.S. business evidence for Target Plus; U.S. returns for Walmart; Etsy Payoneer/GSTIN; additional tax, safety or product certificates by destination.

Not a legal or tax checklist: GST, IEC, LUT, customs clearance, importer-of-record, local tax registration and product rules require transaction-specific review with qualified advisers or service providers. Docsico's role is defined in the written scope.
06 · Cross-border operations

The real cost of global selling goes beyond account creation.

Shipping and fulfilment

  • Seller fulfilled: courier/freight, customs handling, delivery performance, return location and customer support
  • Overseas fulfilment: inventory placement, importer of record, storage, pick/pack and returns costs
  • B2B shipment: bulk freight, trade terms, insurance, product inspection and buyer-specific delivery milestones

Walmart and Amazon fulfilment programmes have their own eligibility and fee structures.

International payments and margins

  • Marketplace subscription, referral and advertising fees
  • Cross-border payout fees, exchange rate and settlement timing
  • Shipping, duties, tax, packaging and return exposure
  • B2B samples, payment milestones and collection risks

Calculate landed unit economics and working-capital needs before accepting prices or committing inventory.

Illustrative margin check: ₹2,000 retail sale − ₹700 product cost − ₹350 marketplace/payout fees − ₹450 fulfilment/returns allowance − ₹200 advertising = ₹300 contribution before other overheads and applicable taxes. These figures are illustrative only, not platform quotations.
07 · How Docsico can help

Assess → Launch → Manage

We should agree what Docsico is responsible for before any application, membership purchase or international shipment begins.

01

Assess

Product, business structure, country, channel eligibility, documentation and fulfilment feasibility.

02

Define

Scope, deliverables, dependencies, external service providers, estimated fees and customer approvals.

03

Launch

Application coordination, account setup, catalogue, store content and operational readiness within scope.

04

Manage

Listings, performance analysis, advertising coordination, seller operations, RFQ or enquiry workflows and reports as contracted.

What Docsico does not promise: marketplace acceptance, Target Plus admission, buyer purchase orders, guaranteed rankings or revenue. Platform and third-party decisions remain outside agency control.
08 · Scope & pricing

Know the service fee and outside costs separately.

Market assessment, onboarding, catalogue work, paid advertising, ongoing management, memberships, customs and logistics can be priced differently. Review a written quotation before payment.

Seller guide · start to launch

How do I actually start global selling from India?

Use this eight-step pathway before you pay for a marketplace account, membership or shipping service. It applies broadly; the actual sequence differs by marketplace and product.

Choose your buyer

For bulk orders, identify B2B buyers, typical MOQ and sample policy. For retail orders, select a B2C channel based on product demand, margins and delivery feasibility.

Check marketplace acceptance

Review residence or incorporation rules, prior marketplace history, supported categories, restricted products and any invitation requirement. Do this before buying services.

Prepare business and export records

Gather PAN, GSTIN where applicable, business registration, authorised-person identity, bank details, IEC and other export documents as required for your model.

Validate the products

Prepare HS classification, invoice values, images, descriptions, trademarks or authorisation, test reports, licences, barcodes and destination-country labelling where relevant.

Work out true costs

Calculate product cost, marketplace fees, currency conversion, packaging, cross-border freight, duties, returns and advertising—not just registration fees.

Plan fulfilment and payment

Decide who ships, who acts as importer, how returns work, which payout service is accepted and when funds become available.

Complete registration and catalogue

Submit genuine documentation, finish verification, configure approved payment methods and publish compliant wholesale or retail product listings.

Launch carefully; review the numbers

Start with suitable SKUs, confirm stock and shipping reliability, monitor enquiries or orders, reconciliation, ad spend and buyer issues before scaling.

What Docsico does: Docsico can assess readiness, coordinate documentation checklists, assist applications and listings, set up agreed campaigns and manage operational workflows. Seller identity, legal compliance, export filings, payments and platform decisions remain with the responsible seller and relevant providers.
Practical documentation guide

What does each document do—and who normally needs it?

These are document categories sellers repeatedly ask about. Not every document applies to every seller or shipment; final requirements depend on the business entity, destination, category, payment route and applicable law.

For official export documentation guidance, consult DGFT, GST/Customs sources and Amazon's exporter-document overview. The checklist is educational and is not tax, customs or legal advice.

Marketplace-specific starting points

Which documents and preparations are different for each marketplace?

Use these as first checks before requesting a quote. Platform requirements can change, and approval is not guaranteed.

PlatformInitial eligibility and documentsOperating requirement to solveWhat Docsico can assist with
Alibaba.com (B2B)Business verification details, supplier identity, product and factory/trading capability; check current membership and verification options.Wholesale catalogue, MOQ, samples, RFQ replies, quotations and buyer follow-up.Supplier-readiness assessment, profile/catalogue work, RFQ process and agreed management.

Target PlusLegally registered and operating U.S. business; W-9, EIN and DUNS; selective application.Domestic U.S. fulfilment/returns and qualified products; India-only business is not eligible as-is.Readiness evaluation only until seller satisfies platform prerequisites.
Amazon.comIdentity/business checks, payout and card setup, product category verification; applicable export documents for goods leaving India.FBA versus seller fulfilment, import responsibilities, listing compliance, stock and returns.Onboarding, catalogue, ads and account management in separate scopes.
EtsyIndia sellers: GSTIN verification and Payoneer for Etsy Payments; identity/business information; setup fee may apply.Qualifying handmade, vintage or craft-supply listings; international delivery and fee planning.Shop setup, product content and ongoing agreed support.
eBaySeller identity/business verification and platform-supported payout setup; export documents based on transaction.Country/site choice, category restrictions, delivery estimates, returns and buyer service.Registration assistance, listings, shipping settings and management.
Two high-risk misunderstandings: Walmart Marketplace is not the same as becoming a wholesale supplier to Walmart stores. Target Plus is not open to every India-based seller. We should confirm which opportunity you mean before charging for any onboarding scope.
B2B example · Manufacturer journey

“I manufacture garments in Surat. How do I find wholesale buyers abroad?”

Here is a practical example of the questions Docsico would ask before suggesting Alibaba.com or other B2B sourcing routes.

01 · Business proof

Can you supply consistently?

Product categories, factory or trading role, capacity per month, catalogue, compliance and samples.

02 · Wholesale offer

What are your MOQ and price terms?

Minimum order quantity, sample cost, lead time, packaging, currency, Incoterms and payment arrangements.

03 · Buyer communication

Who replies to RFQs?

Buyer qualification, quotation response, sample approval, follow-up and documentation before shipment.

What Docsico can do

Help assemble a supplier profile, improve catalogue quality, structure quote templates and set up an agreed RFQ/enquiry-management workflow. Alibaba membership and professional export/logistics services are outside agency fees unless expressly included. Buyer enquiries and purchase orders are not guaranteed.

B2C example · Seller journey

“I sell home décor in India. Can I start receiving U.S. orders?”

Yes, potentially—but the right marketplace depends on product eligibility, seller verification, fulfilment and margin, rather than simply opening an account.

01 · Select

Market and product fit

Compare Amazon.com, Walmart, eBay and Etsy where eligible; confirm materials, product rules, price and competition.

02 · Calculate

Delivered cost and returns

Test packaging, international freight, duty/tax responsibility, platform charges, warehouse and return losses.

03 · Launch

Start with a small catalogue

Complete payout and identity setup, publish compliant listings, confirm inventory and handle customer service promptly.

A marketplace account is not permission to ignore destination-country safety, trademark, import or labelling rules. Sellers should validate these with appropriate professionals before sending stock.
Costs explained before you commit

09 · Frequently asked questions

Answers before you start exporting.

These answers are general guidance; exact marketplace requirements should be reconfirmed at the time of application.

Can an Indian company sell on Walmart.com?

Eligible India-based businesses can apply through Walmart’s India seller route. Business verification, marketplace experience, compatible payouts, U.S. returns and fulfilment arrangements still matter.

Can Docsico register my India-only company on Target Plus?

Target Plus currently requires a legally registered and operating U.S. business, among other criteria. We should assess eligibility first; an India-only entity should not assume it qualifies.

Is Alibaba.com suitable for a manufacturer selling in bulk?

Alibaba.com is a potential B2B channel for manufacturers, wholesalers and exporters. Prepare product specifications, MOQ, production capacity, sample policy, trade terms and a timely RFQ response process.

Do I need IEC before exporting goods from India?

Generally an Importer Exporter Code is required for commercial imports and exports of goods, subject to statutory exceptions. Confirm your exact transaction and current DGFT requirements.

Do I need GST, AD code and LUT?

GST registration, authorised dealer code procedures and LUT applicability depend on the entity, shipment and tax treatment. Confirm with your tax adviser, bank and export logistics professional.

Can I sell on both B2B and B2C marketplaces?

Yes, subject to eligibility and resources. Wholesale MOQ, buyer negotiation and production workflows differ from B2C consumer delivery, return and listing requirements.

What is the difference between marketplace onboarding and account management?

Onboarding generally covers eligibility, application, verification and launch tasks. Ongoing management covers defined catalogue, operational, advertising and reporting tasks under a separate scope.

Does a membership or account guarantee international orders?

No. Approval, traffic, enquiries and sales depend on multiple factors. Supplier memberships and advertising packages are not guarantees of orders or profitability.

Does Docsico arrange U.S. warehousing and returns?

Docsico may coordinate planning and introductions when included in the proposal. Warehousing, customs, shipping and returns are delivered by the appointed service providers, with separate costs.

Who owns my seller account and payment details?

Your business should retain legal ownership and control. Use approved delegated access where available; never submit passwords, OTPs or full payment-card credentials in a website enquiry.

What documents should I prepare for Alibaba B2B?

Business registration and identity, business address, product catalogue, manufacturing or sourcing credentials, indicative MOQ/pricing and export documentation as applicable.

Which marketplaces work for handmade products?

Etsy may be suitable for products meeting its handmade, vintage or craft-supply policies; eBay, Amazon and Walmart may be alternatives depending on eligibility, category and logistics.

Is Payoneer mandatory for all marketplaces?

No universal rule applies. Etsy currently uses Payoneer for India sellers; payout providers and supported banks differ by marketplace and country.

What will a Docsico quotation include?

We recommend separating an assessment, marketplace onboarding, catalogue setup, paid advertising, management and any specialised export coordination. Exact deliverables, revisions and exclusions should be in writing.

Can Docsico help find B2B wholesale buyers?

Docsico can scope supplier profile and catalogue work, RFQ monitoring and enquiry-management processes. Buyer meetings, purchase orders and contracts cannot be guaranteed.

Can I use my Indian warehouse to ship directly abroad?

Depending on platform and destination, seller-fulfilled cross-border shipping may be possible. Delivery estimates, import duties, returns and buyer experience must be assessed before launch.

What if marketplace verification is rejected?

Docsico can review documented feedback and assist with eligible resubmissions under the agreed scope. Final approval rests with the platform.
